Have you stumbled across an amazing video on TikTok and thought, “I wish I could show this to my followers?” Thanks to the app’s new “Repost” feature, your wish is granted.

It takes just a few taps to send content to a broader audience. Read on to learn how to repost on TikTok, troubleshoot the feature, and turn on reposting for your content.

What does “repost” mean on TikTok?

TikTok rolled out the repost feature in 2022, allowing users to share interesting content spotted on their For You Pages (FYPs) with followers. Before this function, if you wanted to repost another user’s video, you had to download the video and upload it to your account as a new post – with the original creator’s permission, of course.

With TikTok’s repost button, users can now repost a video and credit the poster in a matter of seconds. Reposting a TikTok makes it more likely to appear on your followers’ FYPs. The videos you repost don’t appear on your profile – they still belong to the original creator. However, your profile picture will appear on the video to show your followers that you shared it.

How to repost on TikTok

Thanks to TikTok’s new repost button, sharing other creators’ content is easy. Here’s how to use the feature:

  1. Open the TikTok mobile app.
  2. When you find a video you want to repost, hit the “Share” icon (the curved arrow) on the right side of the screen.
  3. In the pop-up menu, press the yellow “Repost” button (two arrows).

How to undo a repost on TikTok

If you accidentally reposted or have second thoughts about sharing another user’s video, you can undo the repost in three easy steps. Here’s how:

  1. Locate the video you reposted.
  2. Select the “Share” icon (the curved arrow) on the right side of the screen.
  3. Tap on “Remove repost” in the pop-up menu – it will appear in the same spot as the “Repost” button.

Why can’t you repost on TikTok?

If you have trouble finding the repost button on TikTok, it may be because it’s not there. A few factors may prevent you from using this feature:

  • You need to update the app. Head over to the app store on your mobile device and check for an available update. You should have better luck finding the repost feature when you download and launch the latest version of the app.
  • The feature isn’t available to you (yet). Unfortunately, not everyone has access to the repost feature – TikTok is gradually rolling out the new function as they work out kinks. If this is why you can’t access the button now, keep checking back.
  • The creator doesn’t allow reposting. Some content creators turn off reposting, meaning others can’t repost the creator’s videos. If this is the case, it means they’d rather you didn’t share their content.
  • You need to clear your TikTok cache. Cached data is stored information that helps your phone process information more quickly. But when cached information is out of date, it can prevent an app from running its latest features. You can clear your TikTok cache by uninstalling and reinstalling the app or following these steps:
  1. Open the TikTok app and tap on your profile icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select the three horizontal lines (the hamburger icon) at the top right of your profile.
  3. Tap “Settings and privacy.”
  4. In the “Cache & Cellular” section, click on “Free up space.”
  5. Tap the “Clear” button next to “Cache.”

How to turn on reposting

If you’re trying to make it big on TikTok, then you may want other users to post your content for their audiences, driving traffic to your account. Here are five steps to allow people to repost your videos:

  1. Open the TikTok app and tap on your profile icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select the three horizontal lines (the hamburger icon) at the top right of your profile.
  3. Tap “Settings and privacy.”
  4. Scroll down and select “Repost.”
  5. Switch the toggle to the on position.

How to prevent others from reposting your content

Want your content to stay exclusive to your profile? If you’d like to disable the repost feature on your videos, here’s how:

  1. Open the TikTok app and tap on your profile icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select the three horizontal lines (the hamburger icon) at the top right of your profile.
  3. Tap “Settings and privacy.”
  4. Scroll down and select “Repost.”
  5. Switch the toggle to the off position.

Other ways to share from the TikTok app

Reposting content is just one way to share your favorite TikTok videos. If you enjoy a post and know a friend will too, brighten their day by sending the clip their way. Simply tap the “Share” icon (the curved arrow) on the right-hand side of the video, then choose one of the following options within the pop-up menu:

  • SMS or Whatsapp: Choose either of these options to send a message that automatically contains a link to the video and a cover photo.
  • Instagram, Facebook and Twitter: Use the social media shortcut buttons to share the video on your accounts or send it to friends via a direct message (DM).
  • Email: Send a TikTok clip as an .MP4. TikTok will create the email for you and even write the subject line – all you have to do is put in the recipient’s address.
  • Direct message in-app:  Share a video with friends or people you follow on TikTok by clicking on their profile photo at the top of the “Share” menu or searching for their username. To bring up the search bar, click “More” at the end of the line of the profile icons.
